Okhaldhunga is one of the districts which is situated in the hilly region of Eastern Development region in Sagarmatha zone. Situated in the altitude range from 390 meters to 3627 meter which covers an area of around 1,074.5 km². This district is situated in between Khotang, Ramechhap, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, and Sindhuli. Which is believed that the name of this district Okhaldhunga is derived from the stone of the shape of Okhal situated in Okhaldhunga VDC 6 at Shiddeswor park. This is an under developing district which is rich not only in terms of natural beauty but also in cultural heritage. This place is the part of Wallo Kirat, home to Rai and Sunuwar community. Apart from these groups, we can find Limbu, Magar, Tamang, Bhujel, Newar and many more. There is a lot of religiously and biologically important place to visit in this district.
A number of rivers, waterfalls, peaks, cave and religious place are considered as the attracting point of this place. Dudh Koshi river, Sun Koshi River, Likhu River are the major river of this place. Tholedemabaa Peak is one of the famous peak situated in Khiji Chandeswori VDC, Falaate VDC, and Kaati VDC and it attracts a number of Tourist to this place. During the visit of this place, we can enjoy the view of different waterfalls such as Pokali waterfall of height one hundred and thirty-one meter, Raatmate fall of height one hundred and eleven meters, Sepli fall, Dhikure fall, Selele fall, and Nyaule fall are few other famous falls situated in this district.
Apart from beautiful natural places to visit there are many holy places in this district to visit. Champadevi Temple, Kotaki Kalikadevi temple, Kilkhordig Gumba, Tolu Gumba, Jogeswor Mahadev Temple, Raghubisseswor Mahadev temple are few places of them.
Places To Visit in Okhaldhunga
Champadevi Temple: This temple is situated in Bilandu VDC 9 and is one of the famous temples of Goddess Durga.
Tolu Gumba: It is situated in Janatarkhani VDC and is the famous place of Buddhists especially for Sherpa Community. The monastery is full of the wooden and concrete image of Lord Buddha and it is so attractive to visit at least once.
Chandisthan Cave: It is a famous cave situated in Ragini VDC. It is approximately 300ft long cave with hot wind circulation and considered as the mysterious place of religious significance.
