Jumla district borders Mugu to the north, Dolpa to the east, Jajarkot to the south and Kalikot to the west. The largest ethnic groups found in Jumla are Chhetri and Brahmin. However, members, other groups such as Magar, Gurung, Thakuris, Newar, Sherpa, Sarki and Damai can be found living in Jumla district as well. Even though Jumla Bazaar is the usual start of the trekking routes to Rara Lake in Mugu district and Shey Phoksundo National Park in Mugu and Dolpa districts, Jumla Bazaar itself can be a trekking destination. Its breathtaking geography and culture attract many tourists hungry for the untouched and authentic regions in Nepal.
