Kalikot district lies in the hilly region of far-western Nepal. The district, with Manma as its district headquarters, covers an area of 1,741 km² and has a population of 136,948 (2011 census). Kalikot district borders Mugu to the north, Jumla to the east, Dailekh and Achham to the south and Bajura to the west. The largest ethnic groups found in Kalikot are Chhetri and Brahmin. However, members, other groups such as Magar, Gurung, Thakuris, Newar, Sherpa, Sarki and Damai can be found living in Kalikot district as well.
The place is rich in terms of natural resources though it lacks in terms of recent development facilities. It contains several herbs that have high medicinal use and importance like Yarshagumba, Jatamashi, Panchaule, etc.
