Dharan is one out of two sub-metropolitan cities in the Sunsari District which is situated on the foothills of the Mahabharat Range in the north with its southern tip touching the edge of the Terai region at an altitude of about 1148 ft which is a prominent tourist center and acts as a gateway to several attractions in the eastern hills including the Kanchenjunga, Arun Valley, Makalu-Varun National Park, and Dhankutta.
